"Diverse tasks and great coworkers are the key factors in a satisfying workplace"

Mari (34), a supervisor trainee in electrical and automation maintenance at the Corex Finland mill in Pori. I originally decided to apply for a job here because I had heard it was a great place to work.

“I started my summer job this year in early May, but I’ve already been here for the past two summers as an apprentice installer.

Before my current job, I worked as a groom for racehorses. I changed careers and started studying to become an electrical and automation engineer. I’m now in my final year of studies.

Currently, I’m working as an engineering intern, filling in for the electrical supervisor during their summer vacation. I’m learning supervisory skills, resource management, and day-to-day leadership.

A wide variety of jobs

Usually in the mornings, I read the daily report and check my email. After that, I check in with the production shift supervisor to see if there were any issues with the electrical or automation systems during the night. My job includes, among other things, monitoring daily maintenance reports, which I use to direct technicians to various tasks.

As an apprentice technician, I performed electrical and automation installation work as well as shutdown work.

Shutdown work refers to a planned and temporary halt in production at an industrial plant or other production unit, during which maintenance, repair, or modification work is carried out. Although I’m now more on the office side, handling work monitoring and reporting, I still go out into the field to work and help the installers whenever needed.

During my summer job, I’ve had the chance to do a wide variety of tasks. We just had a major shutdown over Midsummer, during which I assisted the installers.

Many reasons to enjoy Corex

I ended up at Corex because I knew it was a great place to work, where people enjoy themselves and many stay until retirement. Corex is a great employer for many reasons.

My coworkers are really nice and helpful. During my first summer, I was still inexperienced, but my coworkers patiently guided and helped me.

The employee benefits are excellent. For example, we get a Midsummer gift bag, Corex team-building days, fitness benefits, and free access to the swimming pool.

Corex supports personal career development. The installers and my supervisor have supported me and encouraged me to move forward. The work community is really good, and the work atmosphere is pleasant.

The employer values and takes its employees into consideration

I think it’s great that an employer values its employees. At Corex, employees are well taken care of and rewarded for a job well done. This is really important.

The best part of being a summer employee is continuous self-development—you’re always learning new things and gaining more experience. Learning and my coworkers are the best parts of the job.

I want to advance in my career! Corex has shown me the fun side of HR, and I’m really excited about it. I can definitely recommend Corex as a workplace to others as well.”
