"Employees are listened to and rewarded for good initiatives"

Jerry (29), Production Operator in post-processing at Corex Finland's Pori coreboard mill

I have worked in post-processing at Corex's Pori cardboard factory for eight years now.

I appreciate Corex's good work atmosphere. We have good pay and working conditions. At Corex, employees are listened to and also rewarded for their ideas. Employees starting good initiatives that benefit the employer can receive a monetary reward, for example.

Moreover, you can influence your own work tasks and what you do daily. For example, you can ask your production manager to work in a different department.

I value the employer's honesty and openness toward employees. Everyone knows what the workplace is like and how the company is doing.

Post-processing and electrical work

I have worked in the same department the whole time. Duties include, for instance, changing the machine roll and working with the cutter and the packaging line. Moreover, I sometimes do additional work at the dispatch, where I drive a forklift and load finished cardboard rolls into trucks.

I also do some electrical work in factory maintenance. For example, I deal with equipment maintenance on downtime days. I am on a three-shift schedule, so if something goes wrong with the factory's equipment in the evening or at night, I try to take care of it.

My working day usually includes the same things daily, albeit customers and cardboard quantities may vary. My regular working day starts by checking which orders are in progress and chatting with prior shift employees. We have three workstations in the factory post-processing and we change workstations daily.

Before joining Corex, I worked in an electrical installation shop and did various electrical works for properties and single-family houses. I was laid off from there.

My uncle, who worked as a maintenance manager at the Pori factory during the time of the previous owner, Corenso United Oy Ltd, advised me to apply for a job there. At that time, the company was looking for production electricians. I submitted my application and got a job.

Task variability is great

At the moment, I am happy with my current situation and running four different jobs. There is a lot to do and it’s challenging enough. I was asked to manage the cardboard machine, but I didn't feel it was my job.

The best thing about my job is task variability and the fact that you know where you work and what work needs to be done. Clarity is important.

I can recommend working at Corex to everyone who likes working three shifts. Also, you can work inside in warm weather. While many tasks are done on the computer, you can also do things by hand.
