"Independent work, but still together."

Jere Peräkylä (21), recipient at Corex Finland's core factory in Loviisa

"This summer, I worked as a receiver at the Loviisa factory, where we manufacture cardboard cores. I'm studying civil engineering.

I came to Corex because this was a familiar place from before. The previous summer in 2022, I had worked full-time as a summer employee as a machine assistant. Previously, I had spent four summers in Tienaa tonni at the factory.

The salary here is competitive and I really like the fact that young people are also given responsibility and we are seen as equal. Of course, we also show that we are worthy of the responsibility.

A good example of this is when, after last year's summer work, I made an orientation guide for a machine assistant as part of the school's internship.

The diverse background helped me to understand my own strengths

Before Corex and civil engineering studies, I graduated from high school and immediately went to work. I have worked both at the store's cash desk and as a service station employee and in many well-known companies, such as the factories of Fortum and UPM and the main warehouse of the Suomalainen book store.

Through many different jobs, I soon discovered my own strengths and which jobs suit me best. On the other hand, I also noticed what was not quite my field.

The recipient's work is responsible

As a receiver, I control the quality. My work is precise and requires constant vigilance. It is important to detect quality problems quickly and make the necessary corrections.

We work independently but still together. We have four summer employees and the permanent employees. As colleagues, I have a machine operator, a machine assistant and a crane operator, with whom cooperation must be seamless.

Problem situations at work rarely happen, but they can happen. When problem situations do occur, we tend to learn from them and solve the problems.

At the beginning of my summer work, problems happened, for example, that the cassette was filled with a robot, and during the drive we noticed that the rows were uneven. After we fixed it once, I can now fix it together with the crane operator, if it works out the same way.

Robots are already common in our work. They make people's work easier, don't need breaks and are always just as effective. Still, people are still needed at the factory, because there are so many changing factors. Robots are good as help, but they do not replace human work.

The work requires genuine interest and problem-solving ability

If you are interested in working in the paper industry, you should always apply to Corex! It's good to read career stories and get to know both the industry itself and Corex. You can stand out in the recruitment by just knowing about the paper industry!

In my opinion, Corex is a fair employer that takes care of employers well-being. For example, we have Epassi, which can be used in many different places around Finland.

The salaries are good at this company, but that's not the only reason why you should come. This job also requires a genuine interest. In addition, problem solving skills, initiative and a desire to learn new things and be better are needed. The most decisive thing is your own attitude.

Especially at the beginning of the work, the amount of information was huge. On the other hand, the orientation was also really comprehensive. In the beginning it helped when I took notes. It should be noted which things need to be learned quickly and other things learned through work.

I really enjoy my work and see myself at Corex also in the future, for example as a permanent employee."
